Tool Making (Stamps, Texture, and Chasing) with Jesse Bert
Students will explore the attributes of carbon steel to create unique and exciting tools much in the same way that has been done by artisans and jewelers for generations. As well as looking at some traditional forms and shapes of tools used in Mexico, the instructor will also explain the value of exploring form and design to create your own tool designs that will enhance, embellish, and personalize each metal creation or piece of contemporary jewelry that leaves your bench. Tools will be made by grinding, filing, or cutting with the jewelers saw to give form. Sanding and polishing will be used to give final finish, followed by a 2-step heat treatment process so that the tools will last a lifetime.
