Chasing & Repoussé in the Italian Style with Fabrizio Acquafresca

Materials Kit: $50 to be paid to instructor

CLASS DESCRIPTION:
Under the careful tutelage of the Italian master Fabrizio Acquafresca, learn Chasing and Repoussé in the Italian style. Through the proper use of various specialized tools, students study and implement the classical Italian approach to transforming sheet metal into reliefs and other works of art. Students will begin with a ginko leaf or dragonfly relief, but should also come prepared with jewelry designs of their own choosing. These designs may contain fruit, floral patterns (excluding geometric or abstract images) to realize in metal.

This is a two-part course. The Beginner's course has no prerequisites and is open to students of all levels. The Intermediate course is open to students who have taken a Beginner's course. The full course is open to all levels.

BEGINNERS: 2 DAY COURSE
This course will consist of 2 days of lessons, beginning with an introduction to the course and the use of the tools, followed by illustration and selection of the different materials. Students then begin the practical execution through an assigned project; creating a Ginko Leaf or Dragonfly pendant using the REGULAR set of tools. The second day will be creating a Ginko Leaf or Dragonfly earring using the TINY set of tools and understand how it is different to work in a smaller dimension.

INTERMEDIATE: 2 DAY COURSE (2 Options)
1. For the students wanting to take the intermediate class for 2 days, the lessons are structured to allow students a flower, fish, feather, or animal or to bring their own design using fine silver 0.6/0.7mm, creating a pair of earrings or a pendant. Depending on their skill level, they can also create another project (excluding geometric and abstract shaped projects).

2. For the students wanting to take both classes for 4 days, the lessons are structured to allow students to bring their own design ideas (2 or 3 projects) that they will discuss during the first day (excluding geometric and abstract projects) and develop them all the way through to completed pieces of jewelry. It is possible to create several pieces, depending on the complexity of their projects and the student's individual work pace.

Anything may be created, including bracelets, earrings and pendants; the possibilities are endless.

During the course, students will receive a lot of one on one attention as Fabrizio visits everyone individually.

Please consider that the contents of individual classes may be changed throughout the course according to the class progress.
